I work as a designer so I knew instantly what to do to turn this into a cable hiding box. Most cable boxes are ugly and plain. I bought this box in the orchid color to hide cables, and a second one in the same color as its lid. The only adaptation I had to make was to get the main surge outlet plug, which was a bit fat, through the handle hole. So I did have to snip the handle opening on one side to make it larger but the plastic is thin and a sharp scissor did the trick. I suggest the manufacturer use this same shape and size and design to make the same box able to hold cables. Sometimes the box cannot be hidden and a normal looking artistic box is better. There do not seem to be boxes in these dimensions which are easily found either. They are all very narrow. The surge protector I used was an Anker 332 USB Power strip, about 6 inches long with six plugs on three sides. Enough for a lamp, a phone charger, an air purifier, and a desk clock. Plus with 2 usb plugs if needed. Overall this box was an easy inexpensive and nicer looking solution when the box cannot be hidden but the cables need to be off the floor and off the table. A vase or book can be placed on top of the box.
